📝NATO continues to bicker📝
On the prospects for developments in the alliance

The Trump administration is discussing the idea, literally, of "punishing useless allies."

This concerns the redeployment of American troops within NATO: the proposal is to withdraw contingents from countries that Americans deemed "negligent" in the war against Iran, and redeploy them to places where support was more visible.

Traditional strongholds of American presence in Europe are already under potential threat: the fates of bases in Spain and Germany are being discussed, while Poland, Romania, Lithuania and Greece are on the list of "favored" countries.

There have also been loud statements that allies "turned their backs on the American people," who "for decades have paid the lion's share of the alliance's defense costs."

❗️Such statements are a sign that for American authorities, the security of allies is no longer a collective obligation (if it ever was) and is turning into a tool of reward and punishment — like gold stars on a notebook cover.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte's visit to the White House increasingly looks not like an attempt to restore trust, but like a summons to the carpet, during which he will be reminded of all old grievances and presented with all complaints.

📌So, probably, these negotiations will not end well for Europe: most likely, they will be forced to choose between several evils and bend to American conditions.
